'Not Another Bat Mitzvah' is my stop-motion animation graduate film from Kingston School of Art in 2023. The animation explores the social pressures that an adolescent daughter is experiencing to look and dress well for multiple parties, through the mother and daughter’s verbal exchange. The film uses the space of the home, which is featured as a character in and of itself, to tell the story, using a combination of drawing, mono-printing, and 3D model sets. The mother and daughter’s dialogue is heard from a hallway and a flight of stairs – their environment reacts to their words and moods; a clock ticks as time is running out; leaves fall off the trees or shoots emerge out of branches like hair growth; and text appears up and down the bannisters in response to the girl’s anguish and the mother’s frustration.
'Not Another Bat Mitzvah!' won Best Animation at the, British International Film Festival, Luleå international Film Festival and Santa Barbara International Movie Awards.
I was a Finalist at the Children Cinema Awards and the Indie Short Fest, and a Semi-Finalist at the Paris International Short Festival and the Sunday Shorts Film Festival.
'Not Another Bat Mitzvah!' animation was screened at the London Short Film Festival, Shorts on Tap festival, Crossing the Screen - Eastbourne International Film Festival, Encuentro Para Cinéfagos (Festival de CineArte en la Frontera), The Film Collective Short Film Showcase, Epic ACG Fest, Boomtown Film and Music Festival, Lisboa Indie Film Festival, Euroshorts Young Filmmakers, Drive-In Movie Fest, AXD Film Festival, RED Movie Awards and Life Screenings International Short Film Festival.
